Belonging to the Cupressaceae family, the evergreen cypress is a tree with a slender, long, and narrow crown. It grows in the wild or cultivated around the Mediterranean basin, particularly in Spain, southern France, and the Maghreb.
This persistent tree, ranging from 10 to 30 meters in height, has a gray-brown bark and tight branches bearing small triangular leaves. The female and male flowers (in March-April in France) are grouped separately and produce globular fruit cones of 2 to 3 cm, consisting of six to twelve green scales that turn brown when mature.
The essential oil obtained from the branches is a clear and transparent liquid, ranging from a colorless hue to a pale orange-yellow. It emits a powerful aroma of turpentine, with woody and amber notes.
