In the intestinal environment, Bacillus licheniformis secretes proteolytic enzymes that hydrolyze complex proteins, particularly those found in milk. These enzymes break down proteins into shorter peptides, making them easier to digest and reducing their allergenic potential. Bacillus licheniformis also secretes amylases, helping to break down certain sugars and provide growth substrates for beneficial endogenous bacteria, functioning on the principle of a prebiotic.
