Belonging to the Myrtaceae family, Eucalyptus radiata or Australian Eucalyptus is a variably sized tree with narrow, sickle-shaped (lanceolate) leaves. It produces small flowers grouped in clusters of seven to fifteen, forming club-shaped umbels, with numerous stamens, and cup-shaped fruits. It is found in Australia, India, South Africa, and Madagascar.
The essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the leaves. It appears as a clear, colorless to pale yellow liquid. The aroma of this essential oil is fresh and invigorating due to its high cineole content.
