The Citrus sinensis, also known as the sweet orange tree, belongs to the Rutaceae family. It is an evergreen tree that can grow up to 10 meters tall. Its branches often have thorns, and its leaves are green, oblong and glossy.
The flowers, called orange blossoms, are white and release a delicate and pleasant fragrance. The fruits, oranges, are spherical and juicy citrus fruits, with a thick and rough skin that varies from green to orange depending on their ripeness.
The sweet orange tree prefers well-drained soils and subtropical to tropical climates. It is widely grown in regions such as the Mediterranean basin, South America, California and Florida.
The essential oil of Citrus sinensis, also known as sweet orange essential oil, is obtained by cold pressing the peel of ripe oranges. It has a yellow-orange to orange color and a sweet, fresh and fruity aroma.
